“This prize, the Holy Spirit, is what makes getting through the Commandment Cracker Jack even possible.”
Chapter 3, Page 23 –
Now let me remind you of what Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3:3 (paraphrased and amplified) – “I don’t want you to do this on your own. I don’t want you to do this in the state you are in. I want you to start over. I want you to be born again.”
Peter describes this same idea – with some extra details – to the crowds at Pentecost: “Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.(Acts 2:38)” Peter says that when you are born again you get two gifts right at the starting point.
Tell me, what are they? Look at the text. What are they?
God tells us that when we are born again, we get two gifts: “Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you . . . And I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes” (Ezekiel 36:26, 27). Look at the text. What are the two gifts? Have you found the prize yet? What is it? What’s the hidden “C”?
Concerning this new heart God says, I will “. . . put My law within them, and on their heart I will write it” (Jeremiah 31:33). Who does the writing?
And whom does Jesus ask the Father to send and abide with us? (See John 14:16, KJV.) What is His job? According to John 14:26, NKJV – “But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things . . .”
There’s the hidden “C”. It’s the Comforter. This, my dear Seventh-day Adventist Christian friend, this is the secret of the successful Christian life! This is the hidden prize in the Commandment Cracker Jack! Congratulations! You found it! This makes getting through all that Commandment Cracker Jack worth it. In fact, this prize, the Holy Spirit, is what makes getting through the Commandment Cracker Jack even possible.
Now turn to 2 Peter 1:3-4 – “. . . seeing that His Divine Power [Holy Spirit] has granted us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, in order that by them you might become partakers of the divine nature.”
The Holy Spirit is the Person who makes this promise of God possible so that you and I can become partakers of the divine nature. This is the Person who gives us the hope that we can become like our heavenly Father.
